Frequent Questions
Yes, we now offer direct billing to most private insurance plans. Claims can be submitted at any point of sale, provided the necessary insurance information is given. We can submit claims to only one insurance plan per patient.
Coverage and eligibility depend on the provider and plan, and direct billing may not always be available. We recommend all our patients contact their insurance companies to verify what their policy covers. If you have additional questions about our direct billing process, the team at Nuvo x Fyi is happy to provide more information.

Pre-booking your next eye exam lets you choose your preferred time and day, and ensures you receive a reminder from our office as we get closer to your visit date.
For most people, schedules can change 1-2 years after booking. That’s why we call or email you about one week in advance so you can make any necessary adjustments.
Priority booking is offered for routine eye exams. While we make every effort to accommodate emergency requests, we cannot guarantee immediate care. We recommend contacting your family doctor or visiting the Ottawa Hospital for faster service.
Our goal is to provide each patient with high-quality care in a timely manner. To achieve this, we have implemented a 24-hour cancellation policy. This means we require at least 24 hour’s notice for any appointment changes or cancellations. Such notice allows us enough time to reallocate the appointment to another waiting patient and prevents any missed opportunities for the clinic. If notice to reschedule or cancel the appointment is not provided on time, it is considered a “no show,” and a fee will be added to the patient’s file.
Our patient service team works hard to keep each doctor’s schedule organized, reducing patient wait times and ensuring a positive experience at our clinics. That’s why we send a courtesy confirmation message one or two days before your appointment, addition to our one-week reminder.
Your prescription is exactly that—yours. After your exam, you can request that your prescription be printed, emailed, or both.
PD stands for “pupillary distance”. It measures the distance between the centres of your pupils, ensuring that your prescription lenses are properly centred in your glasses so that you can see clearly and comfortably. While a PD measurement is required when making glasses, it is neither a mandatory part of a prescription nor essntial clinical information to be collected uring eye examinations.
We do not need to include this measurement in your glasses’ prescription. Instead, it is part of our dispensing services and is taken by a member of our optical team when you order your glasses.
We know how confusing insurance policies can be, so we encourage all of our patients to contact their insurance companies to confirm exactly what their policy covers before their visit.
Please note that our team will recommend services or products based on your insurance policy, but rather on your eye health needs and vision requirements. However, we will work within your budget to find an appropriate solution for your overall eyewear needs.
*Please note: Official receipts are dated according to the product purchase date/service date. It is the patient’s responsibility to be aware of their insurance benefits and what is covered on the date of services rendered or product purchased. We will not alter any dates of official receipts once the final invoice has been paid.
The power in an eyeglass prescription usually differs from what is prescribed for contact lenses because contacts sit directly on the eye, whereas eyeglasses are worn in front of the eye. That distance affects the final measurement of your contact lens prescription and can cause it to differ from your glasses’ prescription.
