Eye Exams & Services
Routine Eye Exam
Routine eye exams are recommended for adults every 1 to 2 years. Seniors ages 65 years and older are eligible for OHIP-insured services once every 12 or 18 months*.
*Note that as of September 1st, 2023 there are changes to OHIP-insured services. Visit www.OHIPupdates.ca to see how your coverage may be affected.
Children should be seen every year for their developing eyes. If they have a valid Ontario health card (OHIP), they qualify for OHIP-insured services up to the age of 19 (inclusively).
Eye exams include medical history review, diagnostic testing (some tests may have additional costs associated), acuity evaluation, slit lamp evaluation, in-depth retinal evaluation, prescription assessment and contact lens related exam for those who wear them (additional fees may apply).
Optical Services
Our eye care professionals will help with frame selection, lens information and the overall fit of your new eyewear. We will never “sell” you a product that isn’t recommended for your best vision. Our main goal is to inform patients about what products are best for them. We’ll help you choose a frame that will compliment not only your face shape but also your prescription requirements and lifestyle.
Optical services include shopping for new eyewear, adjustments/repairs to Nuvo glasses, and warranty inquiries and troubleshooting.
Contact Lens Care
Many people aren’t aware that contact lenses require additional testing separate from your regular prescription. Whether you are a new wearer or a current contact lens user, extra calculations and measurements are needed to ensure that the fit is accurate for your eyes and vision requirements.
We are happy to provide full-scope contact lens services.
VISION THERAPY
Vision Therapy is a customized program of visual activities designed to correct certain vision problems and/or improve visual skills. It aims to “teach” the visual system to correct itself.
Nuvo is excited to welcome Dr. Jonathan Wareham and the team from Pupils Vision Therapy & Rehabilitation clinic to our team and clinic in Orléans!
MYOPIC CONTROL
Myopia is the inability to see things clearly unless they’re relatively close to your eyes. It is also commonly referred to as nearsightedness. Nuvo now offers various strategies to help slow the progression of myopia in children.
ORTHOKERATOLOGY
In a nutshell, Ortho-k is a safe, non-surgical alternative to laser surgery. With the use of custom, oxygen-permeable contact lenses worn at night while you sleep, you can have clear vision for the whole next day without the use of any conventional eyewear!
MEDICAL EYE CARE
From cataract care to glaucoma management and beyond, we’ve got your medical eye care needs covered. Though many medical eye conditions do qualify for OHIP-insured services, some conditions are no longer eligible for OHIP coverage. See how OHIP coverage has changed as of September 1st 2023.
ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
We offer a variety of advanced diagnostic testing including OCT, visual field, pachymetry, topography, colour testing and more. Advanced testing is required for diagnosing and managing sight-threatening eye conditions/diseases that might otherwise be missed during a routine visit.
EYE SEE... EYE LEARN
Eye See… Eye Learn® is a program that provides a free pair of glasses to children enrolled in a Junior Kindergarten program in Ontario. When your child comes in for their annual eye exam (OHIP-insured), their vision and ocular health are assessed by one of our optometrists. If vision correction is needed, our optical staff will be happy to help your child choose a complimentary pair of glasses, an estimated value of over $300!
GENETIC TESTING
You should be able to give yourself every advantage for the future. With that in mind, we now offer genetic profiling for assessment of the risk of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), a DNA test known as Macula Risk®.
If AMD has affected other family members, it may be important to know your risk of development. With this information, your eye doctor can more appropriately select supplements for your individual genetic risk profile.
