Routine eye exams are at the forefront of your eye care plan. They are recommended for adults every 1 to 2 years. Adults over the age of 65 are also covered by OHIP once every 12 months.
Children should be seen every year for their developing eyes. If they have a valid Ontario health card (OHIP), then their exam fee is covered up to the age of 19 (inclusively).
Eye exams include medical history review, diagnostic testing (some tests may have additional costs associated), acuity evaluation, slit lamp evaluation, retinal scan, prescription assessment and contact lens related exam for those who wear them (additional fees may apply).
From cataract care to glaucoma management and beyond, we’ve got your medical eye care needs covered. Advanced diagnostic testing is used to best diagnose conditions.
Many people aren’t aware that contact lenses require additional testing separate from your regular prescription. Whether you are a new wearer or a current contact lens user, extra calculations and measurements are needed to ensure that the fit is accurate for your eyes and vision requirements. We are happy to provide full-scope contact lens services.
Myopia is the inability to see things clearly unless they’re relatively close to your eyes. It is also commonly referred to as nearsightedness. Nuvo now offers various strategies to help slow the progression of myopia in children.
In a nutshell, Ortho-k is a safe, non-surgical alternative to laser surgery. With the use of custom, oxygen-permeable contact lenses worn at night while you sleep, you can have clear vision for the whole next day without the use of any conventional eyewear!
We offer a variety of advanced diagnostic testing including OCT, visual field, pachymetry, topography, colour testing and more. Advanced testing is required for diagnosing and managing eye conditions and diseases that might otherwise be missed or miss-diagnosed during a routine eye exam.
You should be able to give yourself every advantage for the future. With that in mind, we now offer genetic profiling for assessment of the risk of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), a DNA test known as Macula Risk®.
If AMD has affected other family members, it may be important to know your risk of development. With this information, your eye doctor can more appropriately select supplements for your individual genetic risk profile.
Bring your contact lenses and blister packs to either of our Nuvo locations and we will recycle them responsibly for you! To know more about this awesome program, click here.
Eye See… Eye Learn® is a program that provides a free pair of glasses to children enrolled in a Junior Kindergarten program in Ontario. When your child comes in for their annual eye exam (covered by OHIP), their vision and ocular health are assessed by one of our optometrists. If vision correction is needed, our optical staff will be happy to help your child choose a complimentary pair of glasses, an estimated value of over $250!
Blepharitis is a chronic, inflammatory condition of the eyelids caused by an overgrowth of normal bacteria living along the lid line at the base of your eyelashes. Anyone can get blepharitis at any age. The overgrowth of bacteria causes crusting along the lash line and creates a sticky environment that traps dead skin cells and other debris among eyelashes.
This in-office procedure, performed by your Nuvo lid hygienist, will thoroughly eliminate the scurf and bacterial debris that builds up along the lid margin.
So how is BlephEx™ different?
A new patented device is used to spin a medical-grade micro-sponge along the edge of your eyelids and lashes, removing scurf and debris and exfoliating your eyelids using a specialized formulation. This new treatment is sure to help you feel better!
